PILLARS OF ISLAM (5 PILLARS)

Introduction to the

Pillars of Islam

Islam is built on five key principles known as the Five Pillars of Islam. These pillars form the foundation of a Muslim’s faith and practice. By following these pillars, Muslims grow closer to Allah and live a life filled with purpose, gratitude, and devotion. Each pillar represents an essential aspect of worship and responsibility in Islam, guiding Muslims in their relationship with God, with themselves, and with others.
Pillars Of Islam

Shahada (Declaration of Faith)

The first and most important pillar is the Shahada, or the declaration of faith. It is the belief that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His final messenger. This simple statement affirms a Muslim’s belief in the oneness of God and their commitment to follow His teachings.
“La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur rasulullah” means “There is no deity but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger.” This belief forms the heart of Islam and must be sincerely recited by anyone who wishes to become a Muslim.
Pillars Of Islam

Salah (Prayer)

Salah is the second pillar and involves performing five daily prayers. Muslims pray at specific times throughout the day: at dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset, and evening. These prayers help Muslims stay connected with Allah, seek His guidance, and express gratitude.
Each prayer involves specific movements and recitations from the Quran. Salah helps bring peace, discipline, and focus into a Muslim’s life. At Qari for Kids, we also teach children how to pray and the importance of maintaining their daily prayers.
Pillars Of Islam

Zakat (Charity)

The third pillar, Zakat, is a form of giving charity to those in need. Every year, Muslims who are financially able give a portion of their wealth—typically 2.5%—to help the poor, the needy, and those struggling in their communities. Zakat purifies one’s wealth and promotes kindness and generosity.
By giving Zakat, Muslims not only support others but also learn to value compassion and social justice. Children, too, are encouraged to give charity, even in small amounts, to cultivate a spirit of sharing from a young age.
Pillars Of Islam

Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan)

Sawm, or fasting during the month of Ramadan, is the fourth pillar of Islam. Muslims fast from dawn until sunset for 29 or 30 days. This means no eating, drinking, or sinful behavior during the daylight hours. Fasting helps Muslims develop self-control, empathy for the less fortunate, and spiritual growth.
Ramadan is a special time when families come together to pray, break fast, and reflect on their blessings. For children, it is a time to learn about sacrifice, patience, and the importance of helping others.
Pillars Of Islam

Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca)

The fifth and final pillar is Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca. It is a once-in-a-lifetime journey that every Muslim who is physically and financially able must undertake. Hajj takes place during the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah, and millions of Muslims from around the world travel to Mecca to perform special rituals.
Hajj reminds Muslims of the unity of the global Islamic community and the importance of humility before Allah. It’s an incredible experience that strengthens faith and bonds between Muslims from different parts of the world.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do you offer one-on-one classes for each student?
Yes, We at Qari for kids considers that Foreign students living in non muslim countries need special attention and focus from their teachers. So Our teachers provide one on one session to each and every student. And every teacher has his/her supervisor to report about all the students progress. So we work on student’s progress individually.
  • What is your process for Quran classes?
We prefer using Microsoft Teams or Skype for classes due to privacy concerns, but we can accommodate other platforms upon a parent's request. The teacher initiates the call, and the student answers, similar to a regular WhatsApp call. Once connected, the teacher and student communicate, and the teacher shares their screen to display the lesson. The student then reads from the screen as guided.
Our standard session lasts 30 minutes, with 20 minutes dedicated to Quran lessons. The remaining 10 minutes are focused on memorization, Islamic studies, or history.
